Özlem Denizmen is the first Turkish person to be a Board Member of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), a pioneer organization that sets the standards for sustainability reporting globally.

The GRI which is located Amsterdam and its board consists of 15 people; CEOs, consultants and academicians from all around the globe. It is a leading organization in the sustainability field and has strategic partnerships with the OECD, UN Environment Programme, Un Global Compact, International Organization for Standardization and others.
GRI promotes the use of sustainability reporting as a way for organizations to become more sustainable and contribute to sustainable development.

YOUNG GLOBAL LEADER

Özlem Denizmen was chosen as a Young Global Leader in World Economic Forum in 2011. The Forum of Young Global Leaders is a unique, multistakeholder community of more than 900 exceptional young leaders.

WHITE HOUSE DELEGATE AT THE PRESIDENTIAL SUMMIT ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Özlem Denizmen was honoured as White House Delegate at the 2010 Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship held in Washington, D.C. Participants of the summit were selected from around the world to represent their home countries, regions, and sectors at the summit. They hailed from over fifty countries on five continents and include successful entrepreneurs, investors, academics, and leaders of entrepreneurship networks, non-profit organizations, foundations, and businesses who are invested in promoting entrepreneurship.

GENDER PARITY, BOTH ON GLOBAL AND LOCAL LEVELS

The “Turkey Gender Parity Task Force” was launched by the World Economic Forum during the Middle East, North Africa and Eurasia meeting held in June 2012 in Istanbul. Locally, it was named “Equality at Work Platform” with a media launching held in Istanbul on January 15, 2013.

The main objective of the Task Force was identified as to close the Economic Participation and Opportunities gender gap, included in the 2012 Global Gender Gap Report released by World Economic Forum. The Gender Equality Task Force was established under the leadership of the Ministry of Family and Social Policies and the co-chairmanship of the Doğuş Group and Sabancı Holding.
Özlem Denizmen is a member of the Steering Committee (representing Doğuş Group) thereby inherently a part of the core strategic decision and action plan of the Platform. Denizmen is also a member of the WEF Global Agenda Council on Gender Parity which allows her to leverage the issue of gender parity both globally and in Turkey.

PARA DURUMU FOR SOCIAL IMPROVEMENT

In 2010 Özlem Denizmen founded Para Durumu social enterprise. Besides doing a financial literacy social projects, Para Durumu is the first financial literacy initiative in Turkey which reaches out to the masses through multiple platforms, page on highest circulation national newspapers, and highest rated radio Kral FM, monthly women’s magazine ELELE and digital channels.

Para Durumu quickly became an address where people seek out to solve and be guided through personal finance problems and budget decisions, can obtain information about financial products, learn about saving for a house, investment choices, and support in ‘making it through’ problems. It has become a popular (and only) venue for people to ‘talk money’ in public.
Para Durumu reaches out to women, children, families, corporates and university students via physical meetings, organizes seminars with different groups and teaches personal finance to people around Turkey.

FODER FOR PERSONAL FINANCIAL EDUCATION

FODER (Financial Literacy & Inclusion Association) is a non-profit dedicated to improving financial literacy and inclusion in Turkey. Founded by Özlem Denizmen in November 2012 and accredited by the OECD. FODER is Turkey’s first NGO solely focusing on financial education.

FODER’s current provision includes Learn Money Week – a global initiative led by MyBnk, the Young Global Leaders of the World Economic Forum, in association with Child Youth Finance International and Learn Money e.V. and 3Kumbara (a youth savings plan for primary school children). Over the past four years FODER has worked with approximately 70,000 young people and has engaged a wide range of supporters from Turkey’s financial and commercial worlds, many of whom sit on FODER’s Board of Directors and Advisory Board.

Özlem is the Consultant of the Board of Doğuş Group. She is also managing financial literacy related social responsibility projects of the group.

Since 2009, Özlem Denizmen has been a Board Member of Doğuş Automotive which celebrated its 20th year in 2014. Doğuş Automotive is the leading automotive importer and one of the biggest automotive distributors in Turkey.

WOMEN: THE LEADERS OF THE FUTURE!

Özlem Denizmen was a speaker at Caspian Week-Davos 2017. The panel named 'Women: the leaders of the future!'

This high-level panel is composed of outstanding women leaders from three key market areas: Emerging markets (India), markets in transition (Turkey) and the world's two largest developed markets (USA and Europe). Each panelist is actively engaged, in a highly creative way, in fostering women's social inclusiveness, with the common goals to: 1) Educate girls in order to prepare them for equal career opportunities; 2) Train women in financial literacy for independent decision making; 3) Elevate women to full and effective participation at all levels of political, economic and public life; 4) Shape the policies and legislation that promote gender equality at all levels. All participants are leading shapers in moving toward the UN Sustainable Development Goal of achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls. Denizmen was taking part at the panel with her social entrepreneur title and the aim is the same: 'Women Empowerment'

GLOBAL FEMALE LEADERS 2015 / THE ECONOMIC SUMMIT FOR FEMALE LEADERS

Özlem Denizmen was a keynote speaker at the Global Female Leaders 2015 Summit that took place on April 21st-22nd 2015, in Berlin. The two day summit that was attended by female industry and thought leaders where the program provided for unique opportunities to discuss economic challenges and issues, and explore current trends and innovations shaping tomorrow’s business realities.

The Global Female Leaders Summit 2015 has brought together female leaders from over 20 countries.

Özlem Denizmen, as a Women Economic Empowerment Development Leader, gave a keynote speech on “Give Women Credit” where she emphasized that;

When it comes to money/finances women should think about themselves (this is not being selfish), plan for their 80s, dream big, invest, save, talk about money, ask (for a raise for example...), not be afraid to say no and choose role models and if all these don’t work, women should fake it till they make it..

TED TALKS

Özlem Denizmen was a spearker at the TEDxAthens in November 2013, taking part with her social entrepreneur title, with the aim of creating awareness regarding the topic “Women and Money”. Denizmen emphasized this in her presentation entitled “Give Women Credit”.

DELL WOMEN’S ENTREPRENEUR NETWORK

Özlem Denizmen was invited to speak at the Dell Women’s Entrepreneur Network global event in Istanbul on June 3, 2013.. The theme of the event was Pay it Forward. Denizmen held a presentation at the “The Power of Bringing Ideas to Life in Turkey” panel, speaking about her journey as a social entrepreneur leading the financial literacy movement, especially with regards to women in Turkey.

CHAUTAUQUA INSTITUTION

Özlem Denizmen gave a speech about Turkish Economy and Financial Awakening of Women at The Chautauqua Institution which is a not-for-profit, community on Chautauqua Lake in southwestern New York State.

Chautauqua is dedicated to the exploration of the best in human values and the enrichment of life through a program that explores the important religious, social and political issues of our times; stimulates provocative, thoughtful involvement of individuals and families in creative response to such issues; and promotes excellence and creativity in the appreciation, performance and teaching of the arts.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S ENTREPRENEURIAL CHALLENGE FOUNDATION (IWEC)

Özlem Denizmen gave a speech about importance of inspiration, education, networking and mentoring. International Women’s Entrepreneurial Challenge Foundation –IWEC– is a registered non-profit organization based in New York City. IWEC’s goal is to develop a global business network for successful women business owners, helping them gain and expand access to international markets. IWEC also presents a platform for the exchange of knowledge, experience and connectivity among women business owners worldwide, setting the stage for new business opportunities and joint ventures, and promoting social dialog among women entrepreneurs and business leaders.

PROFESSIONAL WOMEN’S NETWORK

PWN Istanbul is the Turkish chapter of PWN Global and a registered Turkish NGO. The purpose of the association is to offer a network whereby individuals can acquire experiences beyond their companies & work environment, increase their area of influence and develop. They generate projects that will fall under social responsibility on diversity and make yourselves visible. In PWN, Özlem talked about money management for professional women and gave tips about how to communicate matters related with money.

UN EQUALITY at WORK PLATFORM

Denizmen, as a Member of the Steering Committee of the Equality at Work Platform, was the moderator and presenter at the side-event entitled “The Initiatives for Closing The Gender Gap in Economic Participation and Access to Opportunities – The Best Practices” at the 58th session of the Commission on the Status of Women organized by The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Turkey to the United Nations on March 11, 2014. Objectives of this event were to share experiences regarding the activities carried out in Turkey, Mexico and Japan so far within the framework of the Gender Gap Program, contribute to the establishment of principles with regard to the elimination of gender based discrimination in the working life and provide a platform of discussion with regard to the future steps and further opinions.

TURKISHWIN

Özlem Denizmen gave two speeches in the previous years of The Turkish Women's International Network (TurkishWIN). She gave motivational speeches to young women about their careers.

The TurkishWIN is a vibrant and global networking platform for women with family, cultural or professional ties to Turkey. Our members aspire to excel in their careers, inspire others and unleash the power of the TurkishWIN network.
